All aboard, to cultural assets, at night. The Youma “Night” Bus Tour

All aboard, to cultural assets, at night. The Youma “Night” Bus Tour

On the island of Sado, this bus runs at night, but follows no time schedule…
In the local Sado dialect, “Youma” means “night.” Participants to this event boarded this peculiar Youma Tour bus without knowing where they would be taken. Upon arriving at the mysterious destination, they experienced the local folklore and traditions that have been handed down through generations on this island.

This brand-new event featured a Noh performance on the smallest Noh stage that the island had to offer, tucked away in a small village. As a local story teller shared the traditional folklore of Sado, a lighting and video team (a talented team that is also quite active abroad) put on an impressive projection mapping show, depicting the story through state of the art technology. The event was finished off with some local Sado sake, amazake and delicious morsels that matched them perfectly.

This former island of exile that floats on the edge of Japan’s border, saw the birth of a new, hands-on, night tour.
